Crowns
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that covers a damaged tooth above the gum line, effectively restoring the normal function and appearance within the oral cavity.
Below, Dentist on Harbourfront offers answers to some of the questions you may have about getting a dental crown.
What is a Dental Crown Made From?
It varies. A dental crown can be manufactured entirely from metal (i.e. a gold alloy), but can be a ceramic that has been fused to metal or be all‐ceramic as porcelain in particular.
When is a Dental Crown Needed?
Crowns are a solution for severely damaged teeth. This can include teeth that have very large fillings, teeth that have had a root canal, teeth that have been severely worn down, have cracked teeth, been fractured, or misshapen and even discolored.
What Are the Key Benefits of a Dental Crown?
A dental crown solves the issues addressed above. They can be used to replace missing teeth, they provide support to misshapen teeth or broken teeth, and can return function to chewing. They look completely natural and will also serve to improve your smile, which has a slew of benefits to follow in itself.
How Long Does it Take to Get a Dental Crown?
Fitting a crown requires at least two visits to our Harbourfront office. The first appointment will remove the decay, reshape the tooth, and cover it with a temporary plastic crown. On the following appointment, the final crown will be evaluated, and if aesthetic, function and fitness are satisfactory, the crown will be cemented into place by our dental crown specialist.
